‘Timeless, contemporary and distinctive original paintings created to elevate our mood and transform our mindset.’
Samuel Thomas explains this new collection of paintings here:
‘Masters Remastered’ is my new collection of original paintings. Some of these artworks are inspired by iconic paintings that I wanted to pay homage to and re-interpret in my own unique style. Others explore themes and philosophies that run deep personally for me. I am always exploring and evolving with painting and how I interpret the world around me. In this collection I delve into various concepts that parallel with our life experiences.
These statement original paintings are available to purchase, priced in the region of £4,950 each. Should you be interested then please drop me an email to enquire further. EMAIL: samuel@samuelthomasart.co.uk
‘Moonlit Monet’
100 X 100 cm. Acrylic on deep boxed canvas, ready to hang. (Please enquire)
This painting is inspired by Monet’s lily pond - but here I have captured the serenity and tranquillity beneath the full moon. The night time light creates a mystical quality and the still waters reflects the patterns above effortlessly. A quote by Monet that perfectly sums up this painting yet also introduces this collection of conceptual paintings is this: ‘I am never finished with my paintings, the further I get the more I seek the impossible and the more powerless I feel’.
‘Moonlit Splash’
100 X 100 cm. Acrylic on deep boxed canvas, ready to hang. (Please enquire)
Inspired by David Hockney’s now iconic swimming pool painting - I’ve always admired his work and wanted to pay homage to him with my reinterpretation of the scene. A quote that David Hockney said that perfectly summarises my personal love of colour is this: ‘I prefer to live in colour.’ I always say, life is better when we live vibrantly’.
‘The Splash - Reimagined’
30 X 40 inch. Acrylic on deep boxed canvas, ready to hang. (Please enquire)
David Hockney is a master of Pop Art, and I admire his vision therefore I thought it would be apt to celebrate his artwork by adding my signature geometric sunburst into this interpretation. A quote by David Hockney which sums up this painting would be: ‘Painting makes you see things clearer, and clearer and clearer still, until your eyes ache.’
‘Beauty in Chaos’
36 X 48 inch. Acrylic on deep boxed canvas, ready to hang. (Please enquire)
Inspired by Greek Mythology and the concept of transcendence. Life can be chaotic and messy, but it’s how we apply and adapt ourselves in the face of the storm that counts. When it comes to the adversity in our lives, how we choose to deal with it really matters. Transcendence, in Latin it means ‘climbing or going beyond’, therefore personally for me when it comes to ‘trying our best to be the best possible version of ourselves’, it means that if we firstly believe we are capable then we can harness great personal power and achieve great things for ourselves and for the world around us. But the importance is that we believe we are capable in the first place. The thought leads to the action, so if we have significant thoughts, we can take significant action.
‘Escape The Weight Of Time’
70 X 100 cm. Acrylic on deep boxed canvas, ready to hang. (Please enquire)
‘Time can lay heavy on us when we feel as if it’s running out on us.’
Some could see this as being inspired by Dali and his surreal clock series. However this piece was inspired by my own personal relationship to time itself: In life the constant reminder of the ticking clock and the fact that ‘time is running out’ can weigh us down, suffocate and paralyse us into a state that we no longer apply ourselves at all. But time can also be a paradox, it can either spur us into taking action on our big dreams and desires, or it can encourage us to not bother at all as we may feel time is running out on us. It all comes down to how you look at it. For me, when I enter a flow state and I am painting doing something I love then the weight and the existence of time simply vanishes. When I am not aware of time I believe I produce my best paintings. I believe it’s very important for us all to find the pursuits, passions or hobbies that allow us to escape so that we can feel limitless. There are also certain milestones in life and challenges that can encourage us to re-evaluate our relationship with time itself - for the good.
‘Another Plain Of Existence’
30 X 40 inch. Acrylic on deep boxed canvas, ready to hang. (Please enquire)
‘If only I had all of the time in the world. - Would you really be any better off?’
This painting takes us on a journey to explore the idea of a parallel universe where we live a life that is completely free from the restraints of time. Just imagine how differently we would live our lives if we weren’t ruled or governed by the ticking clock? Perhaps we would end up doing the things we most wanted to do at the moment that felt right to do so, rather than at a time we should do something. Perhaps we would create amazing work as we wouldn’t have to rush to meet a deadline. Or perhaps the opposite is true, perhaps we would become lazy and lower our standards knowing our time was infinite. Time for me is a reminder that our lives are finite, and we only get one life - and so we should remind ourselves to spend our time wisely. Whatever your view is on time, I think it’s very valuable to give it some thought and consider trying to live outside the restrictions of it for a period, after all - time is a man-made construct.
‘The Challenges Of Love’
60 X 80 cm. Acrylic on deep boxed canvas, presented within a black wooden surround, ready to hang. (Please enquire)
Firstly I will describe the painting itself in order to show how the possible meaning is applied to it. Two people work hard to manoeuvre a large heart into a boat. It seems as if they are planning to make a journey. But you may notice that the boat itself is small and unlikely to successfully carry the weight and size of the heart itself. The heart could swamp the boat and the people within it, that’s if they even manage to fit into it in the first place. And so this painting has a wide range of connotations and interpretations that are significant to explore…..
Life isn’t always easy to navigate or to find the solutions to our adversity. Sometimes we’re separated by the things or the the people we love. It’s upto us to try and find the solutions to make it work. Sometimes that comes in the form of a sacrifice or a compromise. Sometimes we have to learn to give up on something that no longer serves us - but in doing so it releases us to pursue other things. There is a delicate balance between the push and pull in our lives - it’s ongoing. It’s not easy - but it’s never easy when we have to fight for the things we love.

The inspiration; Just because a beautiful symphony ends, it doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth playing. The same can be said about our lives, we should strive to make our lives memorable and beautiful despite the fact that one day our life ends. It’s about appreciating the beauty and wonder we have in our lives and working to create a masterpiece out of what we have. Even the faded or the remains of past glory still has reverence and meaning. Here we see a landscape that remains in pieces, yet a timeless beauty remains.
