The Artwork’s Story:
A celebration of Great Britain
What makes us proud of be British? The oak tree is a bold classic symbol of what it means to be British. We plant ideas and we persevere until we see them grow. We take pride in working hard, giving that personal sacrifice to build towards a better future for everyone. After all in life we reap what we sow.
I have painstakingly painted all of these stars (in reverse) using white to block out the colours of the Union Jack pattern, a unique way of painting I adopted after completing some Lino-cut prints. A real one of a kind labour of love. In the painting we see a couple sat beneath the great Royal Oak tree that is made up entirely of Union Jack patterned leaves. I like to think that the couple shown are making plans and dreams towards their desired future, that is where it all begins - in the courage and ability to dream big.
